Khalid came to Web Nautical with an idea for SJL – a mobile app that brings parents, schools, and school transporters onto a single platform. Schools and transporters list and pay to showcase their details, while parents browse, compare, and enquire directly – turning what is usually a scattered, word-of-mouth search process into one organized, searchable app.
Mapped out three distinct user journeys - School, Transporter, and Parent - and how they'd interact with each other before any design work began.
Designed separate, role-specific flows: listing creation for schools and transporters, and browsing, comparison, and enquiry flows for parents.
Built a single cross-platform app serving all three portals from one codebase, with role-based access after login.
Built the backend to handle listings, media uploads, location-based search, and enquiries.
Implemented paid listings for schools and transporters, with pricing tiers based on listing duration (1, 2, or 3 months).
Built the parent-facing comparison view and direct enquiry flow to both schools and transporters.
Tested all three portals end-to-end, along with payment and listing-expiry flows, before release to the app stores.
A few parts of SJL needed extra care to get right:
Three portals, one app - School, Transporter, and Parent each needed completely different navigation, permissions, and screens, but all had to live in a single Flutter codebase without the experience feeling cluttered or generic for any one role.
Tenure-based listing payments - unlike a simple one-time payment, listings needed different pricing for 1, 2, and 3-month tenures, along with tracking each listing's active period, handling renewals, and automatically taking a listing down once its paid tenure expired.
Location-based matching for two different services - schools and transporters both needed to surface to parents based on proximity, but with different relevance logic - schools by area, transporters by whether their routes actually covered the parent's location.
Building a meaningful comparison view - letting parents compare multiple schools side by side meant normalizing very different kinds of school data (photos, curriculum, co-curricular activities) into a clean, scannable comparison format.

With Cattivo in place, every inquiry – however it arrives or however defined it is – follows a clear, trackable path from first contact through R&D, costing, production, QC, and delivery, with roles, responsibilities, and inter-company handoffs all managed inside the same system.
A structured approach to design, development, testing, and seamless delivery.

SJL combines School, Transporter, and Parent portals into one platform—helping schools and transporters manage listings and services, while parents can discover, compare, and enquire about nearby options.
parents see schools and transporters near their own location first
parents can compare multiple schools' details, photos, and curriculum in one view
parents can enquire with schools or transporters directly from a listing
schools and transporters choose a 1, 2, or 3-month listing period, each priced differently
schools showcase photos, classes, co-curricular activities, curriculum, and location; transporters showcase their pick-up/drop service details

- Khalid, Founder, SJL
I had a clear idea in my head but wasn't sure how three very different users - schools, transporters, and parents - could sit inside one app without it feeling messy. The team broke it down really well and the app came out clean and easy to use for all three. The tenure-based listing system especially works exactly the way I pictured it.

SJL shows how Web Nautical can take a real, everyday problem - parents juggling separate searches for schools and safe transport - and turn it into a single, well-structured mobile app serving three very different user types at once. Built on Flutter, Node.js, and MongoDB, the platform gives Khalid a scalable, monetized listing business while giving parents an easier way to make one of the most important decisions for their child.
